How it started
Demcon focal's history began with its founding in 2008 by Dr. Ir. Gerard van den Eijkel for specialist optics and vision R&D, focusing on custom optomechatronic systems for high-tech markets like semiconductors and biomedical. The history traces through its multidisciplinary engineering expertise, developing advanced optical systems, inspection tools, and laser guide stars for telescopes (like currently the ESO's VLT), showcasing growth to a key player in cutting-edge optical solutions within the Demcon family.
Early Days & Foundation (2008-2016)
- 2008: Founded by Gerard van den Eijkel as an independent entity specializing in contract engineering, optics, and vision R&D. Developed expertise in custom optical, opto-mechanical, and vision systems, serving industries needing high precision.
Integration with Demcon (2016)
- Acquisition: Became part of the Demcon group, a large Dutch engineering service provider, expanding its capabilities and reach. Continued building on its multidisciplinary approach, integrating optical, opto-mechanical, electronic, and software engineering.
Key Developments & Projects
- High-Tech Markets: Became a trusted partner for semiconductor, biomedical, industrial, and aerospace sectors.
- Telescope Technology: Contributed significantly to astronomical projects, developing laser projection systems for the European Southern Observatory (ESO) to enhance telescope imaging.
- Medical Innovation: Developed complex optical systems for medical diagnostics, such as a handheld retinal oximeter (Corimapper) for detecting blinding diseases.
- Metrology & Inspection: Created advanced optical measurement and inspection systems, including those for MEMS, freeform lenses, and quality control.
